A fast-turnaround charity appeal film for the Barrie Wells Trust

At Picture Lock Films, we’re proud to have created a fast-turnaround charity appeal film for the Barrie Wells Trust | Box4Kids—a Lancashire-based charity that gives seriously ill children and their families unforgettable VIP experiences at major sporting and entertainment events.

Our film centres on the inspiring journey of 19-year-old James Holcroft, who in 2024 took on the Great North Run in support of the charity that once supported him. Diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia at age 10, James faced a gruelling eight-year battle. He lost all mobility and had to learn to walk again. Finally, in 2023, he was given the all-clear.

This film captures James’ remarkable journey from illness to recovery, culminating in his determination to give back to Box4Kids. One emotional highlight features a surprise message from Olympic champion Katarina Johnson-Thompson, whom James had previously met through the charity—an unforgettable moment for both James and viewers.

The shoot was a race against the clock, but worth every second. Our goal was simple: tell James’ story with heart and authenticity. The response has been overwhelmingly positive—not just boosting donations, but also shining a light on the incredible work Box4Kids does.

More than just a fundraiser, this film stands as a tribute to resilience, generosity, and the life-changing impact of kindness. James isn’t just running a race—he’s running to inspire, and we’re honoured to have helped share his story.
